Virginia

I received an email about 41 minutes ago from Linda, she said that grandma had passed away. I have been sitting here that whole time trying to think about what I want to say about the situation, I have been having a tough time doing so.
I guess I never really knew much about grandma, although I can say that she was a huge part of my life for a long time, especially when Tom and I really needed her. She took care of us many times when Mom wasn't able to do so, she was a very prominent person in my life when mom became ill. There was always cable tv, a nice soft bed, a hot bath, and several good meals available at grandma's, there was a playground right in the back yard, it was truly a great place to be even after grandpa was gone. Virginia knew a great deal about the world through first hand experience, and although I was much younger back then I appreciated her advice and her observations on many things in nature, she taught me how to make things grow, she also taught me a little bit about the values of being retired.
I also remember that she was a real handful at times, she had a very active imagination and often believed that things were happening that weren't. It's something that we all got a little tired of hearing at times, but I always thought about it like "No one is perfect". For all her faults she was one of the strongest women I knew. I am happy that her long ordeal is over and that she had a good long life.
For me it was harder to see her over the last 10 years than any other time in her life, especially when she quit remembering me. So ... I don't think this is a time for sadness.
Virginia, we love you and we will all miss you. You were the pillar of our family for many years, your wisdom, and your kind heart, and good cooking :) will be missed for the rest of our days. Do not be concerned about us though, you have spent all the time you need to in this life, it's time for you to pass on to the next. Rest well

truly funny vid by one of my favorite guitarists, Steve Vai. Those of you who have kids will love this one. It's called Ya-Yo Gakk. BTW I played that same guitar at cherijones is 1994.
